Michael Bergman practices intellectual property law with a focus on patent and trademark prosecution, licensing, and related transactional matters.

Mr. Bergman is experienced in the preparation and prosecution of domestic and international patent and trademark applications. His practice includes the development of legal opinions related to intellectual property rights acquisition and enforcement. Mr. Bergman has secured proprietary rights in a wide variety of electrical and electronic devices (including a range of memory and photonic integrated circuits), control systems, computer software, powder metallurgy processes and equipment, synthetic coatings and fibers, chemical analysis equipment and various mechanical systems.

Mr. Bergman holds a J.D., cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School and both a B.A. (Government) and a B.S. (Electrical Engineering) from Cornell University. Prior to founding Bergman & Song LLP, he practiced law in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Bergman has a broad and practical knowledge of science and technology. As a practicing electrical engineer, he applied principles of automatic motion control and chemical process control to the development of electronic control systems, manufacturing equipment and medical diagnostic systems.

Mr. Bergman is actively committed to the advancement of the legal profession.  He was the 2005-2007 Chair of the American Bar Association TIPS Solo and Small Firm Practice Committee, and has co-chaired the Licensing Committee of the Boston Patent Law Association since 2007.  In 2005, Mr. Bergman co-chaired an ABA national CLE program in Chicago , Illinois entitled: Insurance and IP Litigation. He was previously a member of the AIPLA China Study Group (now the IP Practice in the Far East Committee), and joined several delegations of that group to China .  He remains an active member of the AIPLA and the Boston Pat Law Association, and is a member of Massachusetts Bar Association.

Mr. Bergman is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, New York and Washington, DC. In addition, he is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and is licensed to prosecute patents before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
